My Superhero Origin Story

My Superhero Origin Story

Well guys, here I am! I would first like to thank you and welcome you to my little slice of life. I always want to feed my creative mind and reach others out there who can relate to some of the passions, hobbies, thoughts and aspirations that I have. So the fact that you are taking your valuable time to check this out really means a lot to me! For those of you who do not know who I am, or my story, hopefully I can give you some spark notes.

Lets take it from the beginning. Well not since birth that would be a whole story by itself. Let’s abridge that real fast. I am 32, a twin, avid gym goer and personal trainer. I enjoy bowling, watching anime ( subbed > dubbed guys it’s better), playing video games and watching movies! I really do enjoy it all. I am glad that I am finally using this space to share all of that with you!

You guys ready for a crazy story? Here it goes. Following a traumatic incident that nearly took my life, my perspective on life shifted dramatically. In a brutal assault, I endured two stab wounds to the heart, extensive lung injuries, and intestinal damage. I ended up going into cardiac arrest and had to have open heart surgery. They had to give me a heart massage and bring me back after 8 minutes. This life-altering attack occurred in San Diego, California, reminding me of the preciousness of each moment. As a personal trainer, I appreciated the role of physical and mental resilience in my survival. Inspired by my mother, a nurse, and the healthcare professionals who saved me, I made a profound choice—to share my story in order to inspire others. Embracing life's brevity, I am compelled to seize every moment and contribute positively to the lives of others. For those seeking resilience and a renewed sense of purpose after adversity, my journey stands as a testament to the power of determination and hope.

This was me post heart, lung, and bowel resection surgeries. Over the course of my stay, I had 26 different surgeries stitches everywhere. I couldn't eat or drink anything for 2 weeks. Thankful to be alive.

This is me about 2 days after the assault. As you can see, I am hooked up to a ventilator, multiple tubes in and out of me. I was unconscious at the time. The doctors reported over 20 stab wounds, 2 punctured lungs, and had to take out some of my intestines due to all of the damage.

There are a couple of things that this event has given me.

  • Realize that for every evil person, there are triple the amount of truly amazing people out there. If it weren’t for the witnesses, the first responders and the staff who took care of me at the hospital, I couldn’t tell you that I would be here writing this today.

  • Stay present. Plenty of stressors around us that can cause us to be overwhelmed and think about the wrong thing. Plenty of nights where I woke up and was freaking out about what I saw, attached to machinery, not being able to eat or drink or breathe through my nose. I had to literally think about taking a deep breath and not resist what I was going though. What is important is the next breaths you take. Start there and once you’ve made it passed that, focus on the next one.

  • Positivity will always be more powerful than pessimism, forgiveness will always be more powerful than revenge, kindness will always be more impactful than anger. I truly live by these beliefs, they have helped me heal and free my mind from what ever negative energy that event could’ve had over me.

  • Most importantly, it has given me a second chance at life. Don’t take it for granted

So there you go. Almost 3 years later and I am alive and thriving! It never gets old I can tell you that. Sometimes I think about it often and other times it seems like that happened so long ago. One thing I can tell you for sure is that no matter what you are going through, you have the strength to get yourself into a better space. You need time and patience. Of course I will continue sharing my thoughts that come with this story along with any other lessons that come from it. I am also excited to show you some other cool things that happen in my life from day to day. So if this is the last time we see each other, I hope this gives you some motivation or perspective from a person who always tries to turn positives from negatives, for those who are sticking around, I cannot wait until the next chapter or blog post! See you guys soon!
